Top Superhero Movies of 2017

Believe it or not, 2017 has been the year of the superhero movie. There have been all sorts of superhero movies in 2017 by Marvel and DC. Even Power Rangers had a theatrical film, if you would call them superheroes. For whatever reason, Hollywood seems to be on a superhero kick. It’s making them a lot of money, to say the least, so it doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon.

Last year saw a number of superhero movies hit the theaters. There was Batman vs. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and Doctor Strange. 2017 had even more. While Wonder Woman has already been released, we have the new Justice League and Thor movies to look forward to next month. So, what are the best superhero movies of 2017? Well, I’m glad you asked.

Wonder Woman

Gal Gadot is hot. It’s no wonder DC picked her to star as the newest Wonder Woman. She first appeared in Batman vs. Superman, where she showed up to save the two superheroes from the huge, crazy beast that Lex Luthor had created. Wonder Woman is her first solo film, where she stars as the Amazon princess with powers similar to Superman. She took the box office by storm, and she’ll also be appearing in the Justice League movie later this year.

Thor: Ragnarok

It’s been a while since people saw Thor in his own movie. He’s been in the Avengers films, of course, but was absent in Captain America: Civil War, due to some business on another planet. Thor: Ragnarok will see Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor. This time, he’s teaming up with Loki and Dr. Strange to fight Hela, the goddess of death that’s coming to destroy his home. Karl Urban will also be in the film as Skurge.

Justice League

Justice League is shaping up to be a promising movie.

This will be DC’s response to Marvel’s Avenger series, which has been so wildly popular in recent years. This film will star Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ezra Miller as The Flash, and Jason Mamoa as Aquaman. In the trailer, we see Batman traveling around to recruit new members to join the Justice League. But, we’ll see how successful this film is.

Power Rangers

Every young boy who grew up in the 90’s had their first crush of the pink Power Ranger. This film is the movie adaptation of Power Rangers, the iconic 90’s television series. It definitely was a bit nostalgic for moviegoers like myself who grew up with the franchise. Plus, it attracted a new following of fans who weren’t even alive when the first Power Rangers films came out.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

One superhero film that people were particularly excited about is the newest Spider-Man movie. It stars Tom Holland, a British actor, as the new web-slinging Spider-Man who takes on The Vulture. Like many other fans, I was disappointed with recent movie adaptations. Fortunately, Spider-Man: Homecoming was a pleasant surprise, with a 92% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

If you’re not really into superhero movies, this has probably not been your year.  You might be more interested in these films Netflix just added last month. But for me, and plenty of others who love superheroes, going to the movies has been more exciting than usual. Even better – the action doesn’t stop after 2017! We have 2018’s The Avengers: Infinity War to look forward to, as well.
